NORTH MIAMI BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT CITIZENS' PATROL

The North Miami Beach Police Department Citizens Patrol was conceived in August of 1981 to help reduce crime in our community. The Patrol is an integral part of the crime fighting efforts of our police department. The purpose of the Patrol is to be the volunteer eyes and ears of the department and patrol areas of the community in an effort to recognize and report suspicious person(s) and/or activities to the police. The presence and visibility of the Patrol is also intended to deter criminal activity and encourage police/community partnerships.

Our program consists of volunteers ranging in age from 18 to well over 70 years of age. They are equipped with hand held radios or cellular telephones and patrol the city in departmental provided vehicles.

Our members receive specialized training in a variety of areas in which they may be involved with while fulfilling their duty requirements. However, the members of the Citizens Mobile Patrol do not have sworn officer status and have no enforcement capabilities.

The basic areas of training include, but are not limited to:

· The Importance of the Civilian Role in Modern Law Enforcement.
· How to Interface with the Police Environment.
· Proper Use of Police Radio Communications.
· Patrol Techniques.
· Recognizing and Reporting Suspicious Person(s) and/or Activity.
· Documentation of Suspicious Activities.
· Criminal Law.
· Parking Enforcement Law.
· Defensive Driving Techniques.
· General Traffic Control Techniques.
· First Aid and CPR Training.
