The City of Surprise and the Surprise Police Department invite you to become a
Citizen on Patrol
Citizens on Patrol is a team of highly trained volunteers who assist the Police Department and help to ensure a safe environment for people who live and work in the City of Surprise

Qualifications & Requirements

 

o       Full time resident of Surprise
o       U.S. Citizen
o       21 years of age or older
o      
No felony convictions
o      
Valid driver’s license
o      
Good driving record
o      
Pass a background check
o      
Commit to a minimum of 18 hours per month
o      
Commit to participation in ongoing training
 

Training:  Accepted applicants are required to attend a training Academy that is held one evening a week for five consecutive weeks.  Training subjects will include, but are not limited to the following:

 

o       Policies and Procedures
o      
Legal Issues
o      
Traffic Control
o      
Gangs & Drugs education
o      
Radar deployment & studies
o      
Vehicle demonstrations
o      
Communications & radio procedures
o      
Vacation Watch
o      
Map Reading
o      
Police Officer ride along
o      
24 hours of on the job training with a senior Citizens Patrol member
